(Amesbury MA) On January 12th, Gordon needed nine points in the final ninety seconds to catch Roger Williams.
This afternoon, the catch-up process kicked in earlier, and that made the final minutes a lot less nerve-racking.
Gordon (19-2) defeated Roger Williams (11-10) 103-94, on Saturday afternoon in Bristol, RI.
Big afternoon for RW’s Austin Coene as the senior became the first player from that school to reach 2000 points. The 6-2 senior had 35 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists but it wasn’t enough to get a W against Gordon.
Why? The Scots turned on the Eric & Garrisson Show and it was fun watching for the GC faithful.
It may have been Eric’s best game if stats mean anything. The GC junior got to the basket all afternoon and drew fouls. He went to the foul line a career-high sixteen times and made fifteen.
Eric finished with thirty-six points and is now in 7th place on the all-time Gordon scoring list with 1511 points.
Garrisson Duvivier co-starred in the Scots sixty-two point second half. The Hawks had no answers for him close to the basket. GD collected eighteen points and handed out three assists in the 2nd half. On defense? Six rebounds, three blocks, 2 steals.
Gordon trailed by ten (57-47) at 16:33 of the second half. 3 ½ minutes later, the Scots ended a 14-0 run having caught up and pulled ahead, 61-57. The Hawks missed six shots and had two turnovers in this segment. Eric had seven points in this run while Garrisson added five.
Neither teams could gain separation over the next ten minutes and the Scots had a very slim, 79-78, lead with 5:57 left. Three minutes later Gordon was up, 90-80, and separation had been gained.
Jake Haar started the 11-2 run with a three from Josh Crutchfield. Garrisson followed with a layup before Eric added two free throws and hit a jump shot. Garrisson finished this good segment with a layup. Garrisson two offensive rebounds kept possessions alive as Gordon gained a 90-80 advantage with 2:57 remaining.
Gordon has won three straight and are now 8-1 on the road. They will be on the road in Milton (MA) on Tuesday night against Curry. The Scots don’t want to be using their familiar “fall-behind-early” routine there.
Senior Day is on the 9th with Salve Regina the opponent. The Scots have seven seniors.
Eric’s big afternoon also included seven assists and five steals. He had only one turnover in a game in which he often had the ball on offense.
Senior Josh Ribeiro played a season-high twenty minutes. His minutes could be up the rest of the way.
Maybe it’s my computer but once again I lost connections during an online game. Is anyone else having a similar problem?? I have bonded with the Comcast robot!
