(Wenham MA) It seemed as if the wind was to Gordon’s back both halves…………but it wasn’t.

The Scots (8-2) made the significant wind irrelevant defeating Curry, 5-1, in a men’s soccer game that wasn’t really that close.

The Colonels (10-2) came out a step slow and lost most of the 50/50 battles as Gordon entertained a sizable Homecoming crowd on a shivering Saturday afternoon.

How cold was it? At halftime many among the attendees, including my wife and I, checked into Winn Library………..and it wasn’t to check out any reading material!

The Scots found room to maneuver on the Curry side of the field frequently and were able to put tremendous pressure on the retreating Colonels’ defenders. GC had twenty-three shots in this game.

Two players you’ll see plenty of at a Gordon men’s soccer game are senior Evan Crocker and junior Caleb Cole. Both of them have the knack of coming out of crowds with the ball under control. Put them in one-on-one situations around the goal and trouble is being asked for.

In today’s sixth straight win, Evan and Caleb each cashed in on open spaces they worked into.

Caleb scored the first goal and assisted on the second.

The second goal, by Tyler Modzeleski, was beautifully set up by Caleb. The GC junior came in from the left with no opening possible because of the positioning of the Curry GK and another defender. Caleb took a shot anyhow and the ball went on the ground between the goalie and two defenders to the front of the Curry net. The ball reached Tyler first with Ian Burkhart to his right. Tyler had one attempt at scoring and then another which went in. My picture shows the arms of Curry GK Dan Johnson as he tries to block the goal.

The best part of that goal was afterwards. Tyler sought out Caleb and congratulated him immediately for his assistance on freshman Tyler’s first GC goal.

Evan Crocker had Gordon’s next two goals. In the first one Evan dribbled past two defenders and then the goalie before releasing the shot into an open net.

Plenty to like in this game for the GC faithful. Six games left in the regular season including home matches October 10^th and 21^st with Eastern Nazarene and UNE.
