(Chestnut Hill) No heavy lifting in this one. Gordon breezed past non-league Wheelock, 87-46, on Thursday night at Pine Manor College.
The Scots (6-4) scored the first eight points and never looked back.
The Wildcats (1-9) were only eight down (26-18) with 7:42 left in the first half but Gordon put up ten unanswered points as part of a 16-4 run and the spread became twenty (42-22).
In the second half the lead would get to thirty (60-30) and later forty (74-34) despite long minutes for all fourteen Gordon players.
The Wildcats dressed only eight players and didn’t have the size to match up with the Scots. Gordon overwhelmed Wheelock on the boards, 49-20.
David Dempsey (minus the mask) led all scorers with twenty points. Hans Miersma had his third straight double/double – eleven points/twelve rebounds.
The Scots have now won four straight. From here on in all the games (fifteen) are with Commonwealth Coast Conference opponents.
Gordon will take their 1-2 CCC record to Eastern Nazarene on Saturday afternoon (3PM).
Alex Carnes, Craig McFarlane, Rob Ray, and Dan Hurley all saw their first action of the season.
Alex (6-4/junior) was a starter last year. He put up ten points and collected six rebounds against the Wildcats.
Alex was one of five players to reach double figures. Taylor Bajema (11 points) and Jason Dempsey (12 points) were two others.
Gordon had plenty of high-percentage shot opportunities and tallied a remarkable sixty points in the paint. They also shot a season high 56.7%.
Scot free throw shooting also reached a season high (85.7%). The five starters were an amazing 14-for-14.
The only negative I could find was the twenty-one turnovers. However, when fourteen players get involved in the action miscues can be expected.
Bashir Hudson paced Wheelock with eleven points but it took him fifteen shots to get those points. Good looks were hard to come by for the home team.
Wheelock does not have its own gymnasium so this game was played at Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill.
The Wildcats have faced three other CCC teams (ENC, Endicott, Wentworth) and have lost decisively to each of them.
Wheelock is in the New England Collegiate Conference. Their next game is a league game hosting Daniel Webster on January 10th.

When NBA coaches evaluate a player’s game performance they use the following stats:
#1 – good stats (rebounds, points, assists, blocks, steals). #2 – bad stats (missed field goals, missed free throws, turnovers).
A player’s efficiency in a particular game is arrived at by subtracting the sum of the bad stats from the sum of good stats.
